The ignition coils seem to fail very regularly in these cars. It is costing loads at my local garage. They seem very easy to replace as they just unbolt and pull out, but does anything need to be done to the ecu after replacement or can you simply plug it in and go?

No, just replace them. There might be a fault registered in the ECU but it wont affect the working of the car. Replace them one at a time. Run the car in between. If the old one that u took out made no difference to the running then it is probably ok. Keep it as a spare. If u repace one & the car runs better then throw that old one away. I've found its better to replace a whole set if u can afford it & keep what u take out as spares to carry in the car. They seem to be a lousy design & gradually deteriorate rather than fail completely. Good luck.

The ecu will register a fault and should be reset.
