As mentioned above, it might be the switch which u could bridge or link out to see whether this is faulty.

May be a blown fuse.

Modern cars r more likely to have a temperature sensor which is linked into the ECU which then gives out the reading to ur dash, also controls the fan coming on, so again it could be the temperature sensor, or an ECU fault.

If u r not technical best bet is to take it to a garage u trust. You do not want ur car overheating & then causing bigger problems when the fault may be easy to rectify.
