Mt Renault losse power when l pull off for the first secind and splutters in low revs.But the probelm goes away when the engine management light comes on.
Ive been told its coils

hi,it could well be coils,there are four coils one for each cylinder,it is a known problem with Renault,my advice is to change all four,because if you only change one the problem will come back with one of the other coils.

Had the same problem on mine a while ago it turns out there is a common fault on meganes which requires an upgrade to the ecu

It probably wont be the coils as Renault have not had many problems with the early Megane coils (wasted spark system) but it could be the head gasket or on the O/S just behind the timing at the back is 2 earth points with can corrode. Good luck.

Some Meganes have two pairs of double coils & some have 4 singles. If u have the paired coils make sure u replace the right one as one has a black connector & the other a white one. There is a difference & apparently it is important, though l do not know why.

l just had a coils problem where it would start OK when cold & run fine. If engine was stopped but still warm starting would be difficult & running would be rough. Turned out to be one of the paired coils. Found out which one by taking out each spark plug in turn. One pair was dry, one pair was wet with unburnt fuel so changed the coil attached to that pair of plugs. Problem cured.

Beg to differ with Darren. Meganes & Scenics with 4 coils r notorious for ignition faults. Check out the Renault forum -

my partner says its the coils. he says get them from L.S UK dealer, not renault as theyre half the price. same quality but cheaper
