They could make a 4 cylinder 1.3 litre engine by copying the head of their F1 engine. They did win the world constructors championship, they should be selling a car that has some similarity to their race car.
They mount this transversly, AHEAD of the rear wheels to improve handling. Then they use a ZF transaxle and Bosch fuel injection and ignition to improve reliability.
With their reputation they can not sell it with the Renault name here, but it could be sold in lincoln mercury dealers as a seperate marque, like they did with the Pantera.

You dont become a big hit by just releasing basic transportation in the usa, you need at least a mid size car, with a few bells and whistles.

l would rather see peugeot come back, they make nice looking cars. l have seen some renaults in mexico, and they are very bizzare looking cars.

The caravelle ragtop was the only car that Renault made that America had any use for,so thats a good idea. Renault has become synonymous with unreliability & their new cars look worse than the weirdest looking cars the other companies make. They should just have the whole body done by Bertone, & sold as a Bertone like Bertone did when they sold the fiat 1/9 in the US as their own car after FIAT quit the US. If they could sell a car with titanium valves & rods & pneumatic valves at a reasonable price that would be so cool, especially if it could rev to way over 10,000 rpm & had an exaust cut out so it could scream as it raced through the streets.

They could, but the capitol required would be enormous. l do not think that the Renault name is such a drawback, but the import duties imposed on French cars, apparently, have kept them out. France makes some good automobiles!
