In 2005 the Fuel Pressure Regulator went on my '02 megane (twice- the second replaced under warranty). In July 2008 exactly the same thing went again with the Regulator Again having to be replaced twice (now on 5th Regulator!)Now, after trouble free driving for 2 months, the warning light has started coming on again - strangely its always after the same jounrey (to work) in the mornings but never on way home in the evening, in the same spot near the end of my journey.

The garage has said the engine is lumpy as the compression is down in one piston (?) and unless l want a total engine rebuild, l should just ignore the light turn off the engine and keep going.Does this sound right????
Hmmm interesting point, never notices any cables but it does happen to be outside the Inland Revenue offices!!Will look next time im on my way to work.

yes, sadly it does, renaults are notorious for electrical problems. Scrap yards are often full of them. You have to think what is best to do, talk to other garages. Its a shame as the car is only 3 years old. If you ignore the problem, the engine could pack up all together, and you would be left in a mess. Best wishes and good luck. l have been stung with a renault, and my advice is, avoild

Do you pass under any high voltage cables at the point that this occurs?

l know of one Megane that 'died' in such a situation and thought that there may be a link.

l take it u have a 2.0 litre 16 valve IDE engine if so they always have faults with pressure regulation very hard to fix & expensive it may need a injection rail & injectors over £ 600 to replace last customer we done. if l was u change fuel filter under car then put some petrol injector cleaner in fuel tank & put some good fuel in it the more expensive unleaded at the petrol station & try it easy & cheapest start & try it this will get any debris & get rid of car if u do not want a long expensive time as 5 regulators tell u its not that.
i have a megane with that engine in it & l cleaned out my entire system when light came on with mine 6 or 7 times same fault pressure regulation. touch wood its been ok for last few weeks isince system cleaned ,its worth a try if not ur engine sorry but lack of info but l do not know of any problems for other engines around that year with fuel pressure regulator just the IDE, it will be written on side of car or top of engine cover of log book

l agree with adrian r, the 2.0 16v IDE is very bad for fuel pressure regulators and sensors and sometimes after doing the repair adrian has done it is still necessary to strip and declog the engine. Ask the dealer to erase the fault and sell it.
