stay clear of a clio, the computer and electrics are known to fail. Buy the fiesta. DO NOT BUY A CLIO, BURN YOUR MONEY DO ANYTHING, DO NOT BUY A CLIO! best wishes. The voice of experience. You do not want it living at the garage, running up repair bills!

Clio best for comfort, handling, roadholding (possibly lower depreciation).
Fiesta best for reliability and lower garage bills.
1.4 probably has cheaper tax-disc (check this, l am not certain).
1.4 is adequate power for a car of this size unless you always have 3 friends or lots of weight in vehicle.
Keep tyre pressures correct for best handling/economy/longevity.

for the year u r talking about, the clio is better. go for the dynamique model, as its got a lot of kit for a small car (auto lights/wipers, cd player, alloys). i'd also not bother with the petrols. a 1.6 is going to be hard to find, as not a lot of people wanted the it. i'd go with the 1.5dci (80bhp model). good little engine, £35 a year tax & great fuel economy. & its fairly quick for a small car. u can also remap them to aronud 100-110bhp if u want without any problems.

make sure the car u buy comes with a full service history, & do an hpi check. they r not as unreliable as people make out. any car can be a lemon if the previous owner(s) have not looked after it.
