For the last few months l have had problems with my Clio. The car always starts first time on the key but if the engine is cold and l put my foot on the accelerator, the car will stall, if l try revving the engine, it almost feels like a blockage that suddenly clears. l cannot drive away until the engine is warmed up. l also get a strong smell of fumes in the car when this happens. l have had a diagnostics done on the car and nothing has come up as being faulty. Can anyone help with this as 2 garages cannot pin point a problem?

It is most definitely the automatic choke, needs to be reset. as this will not show on a diagnostic check as the car will have got to normal running temp.

try looking at the air valve ???

l had a similar problem with a '52' plate Clio recently. The car would start perfectly, but if you tried to pull away it would just cut out. After leaving the engine to warm up for a few minutes it was fine. The problem on that car was resolved by reprogramming the injection computer software. A renault dealer can put what is effectively a software patch into the injection computer, which is a lot cheaper than replacing it.
