Has anyone got anything bad to say for a 2001 renault clio expression???
its a family car and cant afford much more

Nothing bad, but just make sure the bonnet catch has been replaced by Renault if you're buying one as they have a tendancy to unlock while you're driving. Not to worry if it has not though, bring it to them and they will do it for free.
Otherwise, a brillant car!

Yea dont buy french crap go with bmw audi or at a strech merc tho merc is for old people

No french cars, all of them Renault, Peugeot and Citroen are the least reliable cars out there, go for something German but not BMW, or Japanese, although if you're looking at a small car like a clio try a Corsa (Y)

l have a 2000 renault clio, ive owned it for about 6 months & covered 8000 miles. l find mine nippy & cheap to run. So far ive spent £60 on repairing the rear brake drums, but that was through wear & tear. Mines done 70000 miles & l carnt see it conking out anytime soon!

As someone else mentioned, the bonnet catch does give, but they will change it for free! Also a handy thing to note is that the paintwork comes with a 10 year gaurentee, l found this out from the link below when choosing to buy a clio.

As a familly car, l suppose that depends on how big ur familly is. l understand from the moaning in my ears that some of my friends find the back a little cramped! but on the plus side the boot is good enough for a good shopping trip!

Engine = Good
Electrics = Not so good

i have a 2003 Clio and so far the electrics have died 3 times on me

l currently have a 2001 renault clio expression 3 door in dark blue. So far ive done nearly 54,000 miles on the clock, & bar the normal wear & tear as you'd normally expect nothing *touch wood* has gone wrong so far.

Expression is nice it comes with aircon, height adjustable seat (always a bonus), electric windows & electric door mirrors. Power steering is nice & light. Seats r the most comfortable ones l can say ive ever sat in (managed to do a 8 hour drive & no sore back afterwards).

Engine is pretty nippy, (mine is a 1.2) even when fully loaded. A 1.4 would be nice for accelleration but hey beggars can not be choosers! A 1.2 l think is band 4 for insurance which is relatively cheap (bearing in mind a laguna 2.0l dci is 11 me thinksies. Though as a young(er) driver l understand my insurance will be a lot higher than somebody who is been driving for years.

Fuel consumption is pretty fab, for a £45 fill up l get (on a motorway run) nearly 375 (pushing it 400) miles.


As said bonnet catch has been noted as a fault in manafacturing & renault has happily changed mine for a newer stiffer one (the old one wasnt bad its just l like peace of mind whilst driving).

As a family car l would say the back is a bit cramped if u have a driver with long legs (aka me!). There is less than 5 inches behind my seat for passengers legs when im in the car driving.

Boot is good, as is having split seats (i can fit a cello & 3 people in the car if l drop back seats).

My only gripe is the windscreen wipers (they're set for french drivers so they leave out a pretty large patch on the drivers side (in france this would be the passengers side). Its not dangerous, its just annoying sometimes.

Bar that this car is going to see me a good 5/6 years. l would recommend to anybody for a small run around. Though l would say for a family car u could go for the more spacious megan or laguna.
