l have just inherited a Mk 1 RT 1.4 Clio.


Everything seems hunky dory except for the noise l can hear above 35mph. When l build up speed l get a loud droning noise coming through the bulkhead.

The noise is not engine related, if l pop it into neutral the noise continues even when the revs drop off.
There are no obvious pulls to either side while driving and the noise is consistent when turning in either direction.

What do you think?

cv joints?wheel alignment or camber?

Wheel Bearing?

Wheel bearings, warped discs or possibly even a bent wheel rim, try jacking up the front wheel and see if the wheel will move by putting your hand top and bottom of the tyre and rocking it towards the car to see if there is any movement, alternatively pop it into your local garage and tell them its due for an MOT soon and it has this noise, they will more than likely check it over as they would get the work out of you to have it done

Wheel Alignment noises tend to show above 40mph, does the steering wheel shudder above this speed too? Could be possible wheel bearing wear,but you need to get it onto a ramp to be sure.
